Multi Riding

What Is It? "Training with Power"

It is truly the only way to get quantitative results.

Are you ready to take your cycling to the next level? Are you looking for a time efficient, effective and safe cycling-specific workout? Are you ready to achieve optimal performance and improve your cycling by 30% and have quantitative data that proves your best results?

EMC Multi Riding consists of eight stationary CompuTrainers™ connected to one central PC. Ride your own bike, while viewing your wattage (power), heart rate, cadence, and calories. Cycle courses from around the world or have a custom course built all of which are viewed on a large screen.

EMC Multi Riding allows for non competitive group training in which each rider performs at his own level. It has shown itself to be the perfect supplement to outdoor riding. But most importantly, Multi Riding is high quality training that's really Effective, Efficient and Safe!

How Do I Begin?

Testing and Setting Performance Baselines

Before you begin any training program it is best to determine your current fitness with a baseline measurement. Since we train with power, wattage values at baseline are the most crucial numbers. The baseline line test we do at EMC is called a Functional Threshold Test or Wattage at Lactate Threshold (w@LT). This test is done to determine how much power you can generate over longer periods of time and what you need to do to improve your efficiency and speed at and below lactate threshold. The course for this test is a 10-mile (16.1k) time trial, and it's flat. It can be administered in a group setting or individual. See prices and packages.

Additional Services

SpinScan Analysis

SpinScan Pedal Stroke Analyzer is an exclusive feature of CompuTrainer that helps you increase power and efficiency. The multi-color torque graph represents one full 360° revolution divided into 15° segments. The left/right leg percentage power splits give you the feedback needed to pedal in "circles". It will identify "flat" or "dead" spots in the pedal stroke where optimal power is not transferred to the drive train. A Bike Fit Analysis utilizing SpinScan is an excellent way to take the subjectivity and guesswork out of the bike fit process. Sign up now!

Blood Lactate Testing

Blood lactate is the by-product of anaerobic energy production in the muscle cells. Your lactate threshold is the point at which lactate starts to accumulate in the blood faster than it can be metabolized by your body. During exercise, an athlete can perform up to a certain intensity without accumulating lactate in the blood. Once this intensity is exceeded, lactate levels in the muscles rise, and the muscles fatigue rapidly. The critical exercise intensity at which this occurs is referred to as your lactate threshold. The lactate threshold (or, LT) is a critical determinant of performance in endurance sports and, unlike your VO2 max, your LT can change significantly over the course of a season. In fact, one of the very reasons for training is to increase your LT power (Watts).

At Eastside Multisport Center we take tiny blood samples from your fingertips as you ride your bike on the CompTrainer™. Once you reach a work load intensity which is measured by power output measured by wattage - that produces a blood lactate of 4.0 mmol/L we identify your LT. Having this information is crucial for you or your coach in building an optimized training plan.

Bike Fit Analysis

Your body position is the single greatest factor when determining your speed while riding at a specific power output. A proper fit bike will increase your comfort and stamina not to mention that if your more comfortable you will want to ride longer and go faster.

The fit includes setting your bike up on a CompuTrainer™ selecting proper saddle position, height and angle fore and aft of saddle and reach/drop to the handle bars. The use of a Racer Mates CompuTrainer™ will be used to analyze your pedal stroke during your fit session this will insure that you are positioned in such a way that you can achieve optimal power output without risk of injury.
